“You don’t need to run if you’re looking for love.” Nothing says love like live music.
Everyone is searching for pieces of “normalcy,” whatever that may mean in this pandemic world. But I’m grateful to say music has always been a constant comfort to me. During these past few months I’ve been relying heavily on the lo-fi beats and guitar of the incredible artist, keshi.
Texas native, keshi opened the show for LANY on November 13, 2021, at the legendary Forum in Inglewood, CA. Not only is keshi a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and producer, he is incredibly charming and his stage presence is truly captivating. Opening his set with obvious crowd favorite, “beside you,” you’re instantly hooked with his honey-sweet vocals. Gratefully accepting sunflowers from a fan in the pit, keshi never fails to move from stage right to left, making each person feel seen in an arena full of sound and light.
With a few laughs, keshi explains that the crew is cracking jokes in his in-ears and he can’t help but laugh; he exudes genuine charm and charisma and quickly channels that into his next song. keshi’s latest single, “SOMEBODY,” a sexy, intoxicating song gets the entire arena into a groove; flowing into song after song, he never misses a beat.
After taking a quick moment to grab his guitar, he asks the audience if he can play a new song off of his upcoming album. With enthusiastic approval by the crowd, a beautiful piano melody takes over the room. The crowd’s phone flashlights turn on and a sea of tiny stars wave to the beat that led into a gorgeous John Mayer-esque crescendo of guitar.
And just like that keshi’s onto his last song of his set. A heartbreaking moment when the best part of your evening is coming to an end but “too soon” is the best way to close it out. And to echo keshi’s words, that night was a “fuckin’ pleasure” and I wish I could do it all again.
