Shygirl brought her Nymph World Tour to a sold out crowd last night at the Music Box in San Diego, delivering an unforgettable performance that had the entire venue in an absolute frenzy from start to finish.
The South London multi-hyphenate has been on the rise since the release of her first single “Want More” in 2016. Since then, she’s worked alongside close collaborator and friend Sega Bodega, as well as other well-known experimental producers such as Arca and Sophie. With this unique sound and her seductive yet empowering lyricism, she has pushed forward the idea of what dance, pop and hip-hop music can be. So much so that she also gained the attention from the likes of Rihanna, who has used her music for her Fenty Beauty commercials and fashion shows.
The night kicked off with an opening DJ set from Angelita, who got the crowd warmed up with a mix of electronic beats. As the anticipation in the room grew, the lights dimmed, and the stage was set for Shygirl to make her grand entrance.
As soon as Shygirl hit the stage, the energy in the room skyrocketed. Dressed from head to toe in an all black form fitting outfit that showed off her voluptuous figure, she exuded confidence and charisma as she launched into her first song, "Woe." With the ethereal yet infectious beat ringing through the speakers and her soft falsetto switching up to her hypnotic rapping, she had the entire crowd moving to the rhythm and screaming “Booty so delicious, I just wanna take a bite though.”
Throughout the night, Shygirl delivered a mix of her hits from her latest album Nymph, as well as tracks from her earlier EPs. From the pop anthem "Coochie (a bedtime story)" to the hard-hitting club banger "TASTY", each song showcased her dynamic range as a performer and her ability to switch seamlessly between genres. But it wasn't just her music that captivated the audience. Shygirl's stage presence was equally mesmerizing, as she moved around the stage with effortless grace, engaging with the crowd and commanding their attention.
The highlight of the night came during her encore performance of "BDE" to close out the entire set. A personal favorite of mine that features a trance-inducing beat and an incredibly catchy chorus that may be too inappropriate to write out. As Shygirl launched into the chorus, the already twerking crowd screamed along in unison, creating a true core memory for those in attendance.
As “BDE” came to a close, Shygirl left the stage to thunderous applause, having delivered a performance that was equal parts electrifying and empowering. With her unique blend of rap, pop, and dance music, Shygirl is easily one of the most exciting artists in the industry today, and her Nymph World Tour is not to be missed.
