The blonde bowl-cut mullet was in full effect on 2/22/22 with YouTube and TikTok sensation Oliver Tree at San Francisco’s historic The Warfield. It was reptile-alien rappers, oversized JNCO jeans and of course, lots of denim fringe for Tree’s showcase of his new album ‘Cowboy Tears’ (which was released subsequent to his announcing that he was “retiring from music” in 2020). Tree’s album is a far cry from the techno-rap he made famous with his debut album ‘Ugly Is Beautiful,’ turning more towards country, rock and pop influences to describe a more personal lonesomeness akin to a cowboy lost in the big city.
TikTok-famous openers Sueco and 347Aidan brought their pain-fueled rap-punk Linkin Park-à la-Machine Gun Kelly angst to the crowd beforehand, giving the audience some gristle to chew on before the main event.
