Protest The Hero from Whitby, Ontario, Canada hit the City of Toronto on their current Canadian tour with support from Edmonton, Alberta’s Choke, Friday night at the Danforth Music Hall. Choke, the band played their heavy metal tracks with an opening set to set the tone. As the headliners presented themselves to the joy of the crowd, the crowd grew in anticipation.
The progressive metal band is on tour promoting their past albums including the 2020 release Palimpsest. The band opened with their melodic tune “The Migrant Mother” with their set taking them through multiple albums including past albums Fortress and Scurrilous.
At the end of the opening track, singer Rody bowed out of the night’s show due to vocal issues, nonetheless, the show must go on, and indeed it did. The rest of the night showcased the talents of the musicians and their respective instruments including heavy guitars and loud bass trackings. At his exit, Rody asked the crowd to sing along as loudly in his absence. The Protest the Hero faithful were as loud as could be, with their guitarist proclaiming so loud their voices can be heard through their in-ear monitors.
Even with the night’s changes, the band offered an instrumental rendering for the crowd, one that’s sure to leave a memory for those in attendance.
