A full moon on a Friday the 13th? What other bands could you possibly expect to show up besides the Radioactive Chicken Heads and Dr. Madd Vibe & The Missin’ Links to satisfy those strange lunatic punk desires to dance? Well, if you were at Molly Malone’s Irish Pub in West LA on this auspicious night, you got exactly that.
The Radioactive Chicken Heads are a SoCal punk group who perform anonymously in gigantically grotesque mutant chicken costumes. Lead singer Carrot Top (the sole vegetable in the core lineup) and the rest of the characters (Bird Brain, Nuke Boy, Sgt. Psyclopps, Poultry Geist and Jerk Chicken) offer original songs related to their tortured poultry heritage, such as “Bird Brain,” “Tales From The Coop,” “Pox,” “and “Cluck At The Moon,” as well as songs about their rogue’s gallery of genetically mutated enemies, notably “Frankenchicken,” “Rat Fink,” and “Killer Klownfish.” Formed in 1993, originally under the name Joe & The Chicken Heads, The RCH bring their fowl-related visual punk sensibility to create an all-out assault on the senses, plus their songs are catchy beyond belief. Kids and adults are always welcome with these birds of a feather. Don’t be a motherclucker and forget to follow them on social media.
Dr. Madd Vibe, also known as Angelo Moore from the ska/funk-metal band Fishbone brought some high-intensity funk to the stage with the rest of The Missin’ Links (drummer Princess Frank, guitarist Ben Kishaba, bassist Aroyn Davis, and female vocalist Chezere), including Moore’s spooky theremin, a set of old-school pop-and-lock dances and Angelo morphing into Dr. Madd Vibe and interacting with the Chicken Heads (at some point “upgrading” Frankenchicken with an oversized USB flash-drive). If you haven’t checked out this party band of funk craziness, do yourself a favor and check them out.
