ALEX AIONO: gallery + review
21 year-old heartthrob Alex Aiono lit up the Mod Club on a cool Sunday evening. With the night starting early, the venue filled with young followers of the singer. Alex Aiono has grown a lofty following from gracing YouTube with various covers of hits along with releasing original tracks in anticipation of his debut record due in September.
Opening the night was teen singer AJA9, with a whimsical presence she held her known through covers including “Million Reasons” by Lady Gaga and her latest original track “Right Kinda Love”.
As the venue floor quickly filled, the growing anticipation to the night’s headliner grew. With the dimming of the lights Alex set foot on the stage, as he stepped in the spotlights clad in a blue and white Maple Leafs jerseys the crowd roared and roared. Alex promptly began covering the latest hits he’s known to take his own spin on including “I Spy”, “Isn’t She Lovely”, “No Problem”, and many of Toronto’s staple rapper Drake’s hits including “Child’s Play”, Passionfruit and more. It clearly did not matter the track whether new or old, the crowd commanded singing along with the Arizona native.
Alex made reference to the show being his first solo headlining tour in North America, previous trips to the city and his affinity for his musical journey. He also made sure to share a supportive message for those seeking to achieve their dreams, as far as they may seem which contributed to the light-heartedness and enjoyable vibe to the show.
As Alex played a nearly hour long show, he sang his popular tracks including “Hot2Touch”, as the night rolled on the crowd grew with energy tenfold. Alex ended the night on a high note singing his latest original tracks “Question” and “Work the Middle”. As a young artist, it was clear he commanded the crowd with ease and showed his popularity growing from online platforms. Alex closed the night with his popular mash up cover of “One Dance” and “Hasta El Amanecer”.
